January 2008

2007 was a great year on a bike

In 2007, I:

  • Rode my bike over 3,000 miles
  • Rode my bike more miles than I drove my car
  • Created Team Climb On! who together raised over $22,000 for the National MS Society

10.35m: Recovery ride

Was supposed to be a 20m ride around Miramar Lake but my chain broke as I was coming out of the saddle on one of the turns and I ended up going over the handlebars. Took 20 minutes or so to get my chain repaired then I was out of time and enthusiasm so I came home.

Yes, there’s a ding on my frame, but no, it’s just the paint. Bent my saddle a little - took me awhile to figure that out (bike went upside down).

Road rash rocks… (scrub scrub!)

52.03m: Scripps-Soledad

Surprised myself today by riding from home to Mt Soledad and back including Via Capri, that nasty aquarium road and Scripps Highlands.

On my way back home another cyclist tried to pass me while climbing that short hill just north of Torrey Pines lagoon and I was having none of it. Made me think of Mark’s recent post on competition :)

Snowboarding in Vail

Headed to Vail this weekend with Dave, Erik and Gerry. They’re saying it’s been the best snow season in Colorado in years! I think it’s going to be the best weekend with these guys in years :)

No miles while in Vail, but Wineman promises to crank my legs off when I return. He doesn’t realize I’ll be acclimated to 10,000 feet!

SoCal Charity Rides in 2008

Did a little research tonite into what charity bike rides are coming up. I was surprised at how many there were and how hard they were to find! I like the sound of the Marine Corp ride, Avenue of the Oaks and the Alpine Challenge…

Non non-profit rides

And of course, there are a bunch of fun sounding rides that aren’t organized around a charity. You know I’m going to win the SROP 4th of July ride, right?

It never rains in southern california

Really happy I got all those miles in last week (149.82) cause it’s raining buckets today. It’s going to be hard getting my miles in this week.

47.22 miles

Rode with Mark and Andrew today. We met at the Roberto’s on Carmel Valley Rd and rode to Camp Pendelton and back (and threw Torrey in cause, well… it’s there). Mark got every town sign (the bastard!) and even beat me to the top of Torrey. My winter break was too long ;)

Legs are totally trashed now. I could use a nap. How great is that?!
